TANAÏL

To understand Massaya, you should come to the home of Massaya to experience our efforts in preserving and improving the environment, and the quality crusade that our team dedicates itself to daily.

Massaya’s story starts in the heart of the Beqaa Valley at Tanaïl, where in the early 1970s Michel Ghosn bought a countryside estate at which his family could spend quality time on the weekends.

Michel and Amal’s three children have joyful memories of their childhood there, and they were heartbroken when civil war erupted in 1975 and they had to leave the estate in a rush. Finally, when things settled down in 1990, they returned. It was here in 1992 that Sami and Ramzi Ghosn reclaimed their family’s land and began creating a vineyard and a traditional distillery. They first produced an arak, in a distinctive blue bottle, the success of which led the brothers to abandon their individual careers in architecture and finance and marketing and roll up their sleeves the way farmers do. The first bottles of arak were produced in 1994, with wine following in 1998. The quality of their wine and arak promoted Massaya almost overnight into the top echelon of Lebanon’s producers.
